'Govindas Restaurant' 10 Soho Street London W1 Tel: 020 7437 4928 Indian Cuisine Fully Vegetarian The bread is the best you can get. The staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are about what you would expect in London. Some incredible home made sweet dishes that will really get your taste buds rearing. And the lazanya (sic) is a real treat. I believe the food there is truly pure and spiritual. I drop in whenever I'm in London.

'Country Life' 3-4 Warwick Street London W1R 5WA Tel: 020 7434 2922 Email: info@countrylife-restaurant.co.uk Vegetarian & Vegan Buffet Cuisine Organic Food Country Life's daytime buffet is the best you'll find anywhere. There's a vast array of the freshest salad ingredients for you to mix and match, plus homemade soups, bread, hot dishes and desserts. Incredibly, every single item is vegan. The choice is fantastic, the atmosphere calming and the prices are extremely affordable. The price is based on the weight of food on your plate but the most you'll pay is £5.95.

'Rasa' Church Street Stoke Newington London N16 Tel: 020 7249 0344 Indian (Kerala) Cuisine Fully Vegetarian Rasa is a superb Indian restaurant specialising in dishes from Kerala and has a very different menu from normal Indian restaurants. If you like Indian food you'll be amazed by the freshness and taste of their dishes, that make you realise how tired some Indian cooking is. |

'Raw Deal' York Street London W1 All Types of Cuisine Fully Vegetarian Vegan Menu Organic Food My favourite London restaurant. It's one of those places that attracts a regular clientele, all of whom seem to appreciate the excellent food on offer. The service is friendly and, although the menu is limited (usually only two hot dishes plus saleds), the standards are high. A good bet is to order "half-and-half" (a half portion of each of the main courses).

'Mildred's' 58 Greek Street Soho London W1 Tel: 020 7494 1634 Fully Vegetarian Basic decor, wonderful food, wide selection, all dishes available with vegan option, vegetarian wine also available. This is my favourite veggie place to eat in London - my non-vegetarian boyfriend also loves it. The prices are really good, especially when you consider its central location.

All our guests talked delightedly about the food even though most were not vegetarian. We have noticed that since our wedding the vegan choice on the regular Manna menu is much improved.

'Meaning Green' 150 Salisbury House London Wall London EC2 Tel: 020 7588 6363 Modern Cuisine (Swedish Chain of Restaurants) Fully Vegetarian Vegan Menu Excellent service and a really interesting and varied menu. Can be quiet in the evenings as it is in the City but very modern (Ikea-like) decor. A little bit quirky (e.g. they play Linguaphone 'Teach you Swedish' tapes in the toilets). Approx. £20 - £30 per head including wine. |

'Zayka' St Mary's Road South Ealing London W5 Indian Cuisine Organic Food Not strictly vegetarian, but an impressive and extensive range of vegetarian dishes, partly because the owner manager and his wife are vegetarian. The food is very good, and if you do not see your favourite dish on the menu, they will gladly make it up for you. Owner is called Karim. He and his staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much for them. When we lived in the area this was our favourite restaurant. They will also welcome even the smallest children. I recommend it highly. Karim will talk to you for hours about his sporting passions: Blackburn Rovers F.C., and cricket. A wonderful place. The atmosphere is quiet and unobtrusive, the staff corteous and respectful. Rough price guide, for two including starters, main, sundries and several beers, around £30-35. |

Near St Paul's tube) Tel: 020 7329 0789 Vegetarian Cuisine Fully Vegetarian Organic Food The salads are to die for! Always at least two to choose from plus selection of hot-dishes and yummy deserts. This cafeteria-style restaurant housed in the crypt of Bow Bells church is DEFINITELY the best in the City! I can vouch for this as a vegetarian who has been working here for over 5 years. |

'Futures Cafe Bar' Botolph Alley off Lovat Lane by East Cheap London EC3 Tel: 020 7623 4529 Email: futures.restaurants@btinternet.com All Types of Cuisine Fully Vegetarian Vegan Menu I have only tried the takeaway. It is brilliant, as I work just round the corner and they have vegan options every day, even puddings. Their fruit crumbles are a real treat. A choice of 4 fresh salads, a savoury (with rice usually) a bake and a hotpot every day. Theme days. A cooked meal and salad or pudding for a fiver. Brilliant!! Only problem is, long queues at peak times. |
|
'Bah Humbug' The Crypt St Matthew's Peace Garden Brixton Hill London SW2 Tel: 020 7738 3184 International Cuisine The restaurant is in the crypt of an old church on the roundabout in Brixton centre opposite the Fridge. The food is fish/vegetarian and of an eclectic nature. It's where I take my vegetarian friends for a treat. Great food, great wine, great atmosphere. |

'Gannets' 458 Hoe Street Walthamstow London E17 9AH Tel: 020 8558 6880 Email: hornbeam@hornbeamec.freeserve.co.uk Vegetarian & Vegan Cuisine Organic Food A well-priced mixed menu based in the heart of the East-end (well close). |
'Wagamama' 4 Streatham Street Tel: 020 7323 9223 Japanese Cuisine Wagamama is one of the only "fast food" restaurants I have been to where you actually come out feeling like you have eaten incredibly healthy food, which is also always totally fresh and delicious. Specialities are ramen (soup based dishes with tofu or seafood/chicken etc for the non vegetarian friend) or noodles. The Yasai Yaki Soba - a vegetarian pan fried noodle dish involving fresh ginger and garlic is a particular favourite of mine - great accompanied with freshly squeezed juice. The minimalist modern canteen style restaurant is surprising as you sit on benches between rafts of other people, but it is still easy to have a private conversation. Waiters are young friendly and fast, your order is taken on a keypad and is then sent directly to the kitchen (open and right behind you!) A main course and drink, which is more than enough to fill you up will only set you back significantly less than £10. The food is so good that you will come back usually to find there is a queue of people waiting to get in before you. |
|
'Mantanah Thai' 2 Orton Buildings Portland Road South Norwood Tel: 020 8771 1148 Thai Cuisine Mantanah Thai is not a vegetarian restaurant, but they have won awards for their vegetarian cuisine which is second to none even among the best Thai restaurants. Food is, of course, exotic, but always carefully prepared, imaginative, and presented with a finesse that would put your average sushi chef to shame. |
