The bread is the best you can get. The staff are friendly and helpful. Prices are about what you would expect in London. Some incredible home made sweet dishes that will really get your taste buds rearing. And the lazanya (sic) is a real treat. I believe the food there is truly pure and spiritual. I drop in whenever I'm in London.

Vegetarian & Vegan Buffet Cuisine  Organic Food
Julianne Bonner (Romford) wrote on 4 December 2000:
Country Life's daytime buffet is the best you'll find anywhere. There's a vast array of the freshest salad ingredients for you to mix and match, plus homemade soups, bread, hot dishes and desserts. Incredibly, every single item is vegan. The choice is fantastic, the atmosphere calming and the prices are extremely affordable. The price is based on the weight of food on your plate but the most you'll pay is £5.95.

Patrick Hunt (Memphis, USA) wrote on 13 September 1998:
A peaceful haven. 100% animal product free. Peace while you eat. We discovered Country Life while vacationing in England from Memphis.

Mike Lewis (Edinburgh) wrote on 18 October 2000:
My favourite London restaurant. It's one of those places that attracts a regular clientele, all of whom seem to appreciate the excellent food on offer. The service is friendly and, although the menu is limited (usually only two hot dishes plus saleds), the standards are high. A good bet is to order "half-and-half" (a half portion of each of the main courses).

Claire (London) wrote on 15 February 2000:
I love this restaurant. It is just around the corner from me, and I am in there all the time. I know that it is really good as it featured in Sliding Doors. Very relaxed atmosphere, wonderful friendly staff, and very reasonably priced for the huge dishes that they serve. They do the best mushroom salad, and a special sweet potato and pumpkin bake, mmmmm. It think that this place is a real hidden treasure.

Basic decor, wonderful food, wide selection, all dishes available with vegan option, vegetarian wine also available. This is my favourite veggie place to eat in London - my non-vegetarian boyfriend also loves it. The prices are really good, especially when you consider its central location.

Cheryl Monroe (New Jersey, USA) wrote on 2 June 1999:
I'm not familiar enough with vegetarian cuisine to tell you whether the restaurant is fully vegan or organic, but I can tell you the food is great! I'd never had a veggie burger, but I'm so glad my first was at Mildred's. In fact, I've been craving one of them as of late because they were so moist, flavorful, well seasoned and served with delicious relishes. There was no attempt to make them taste like meat or meat substitute. Their recipes just let the vegetables and grains be their flavorful selves. My favorite was the one made with sweet potato. The stews and deserts were just as wonderful. As for the atmosphere, the place is small but the staff is friendly and the prices are very reasonable for such delicious, filling fare.

This restaurant did our vegan wedding catering which was superb. All our guests talked delightedly about the food even though most were not vegetarian. We have noticed that since our wedding the vegan choice on the regular Manna menu is much improved.

Matthew Kay (Connected with the Restaurant) wrote on 25 May 2000:
Set on a stucco side street of fashionable village like Primrose Hill, Manna has a large pleasant dining room divided from a lovely conservatory front by etched glass windows. Candles and fresh flowers on the wooden tables along plus the unusual wall lights specially made from glass bricks give the restaurant a real sparkle. It serves an delicious fusion of many different cusines with delicious dishes from Indonisia, Mexico, Japan, Spain, England, France and many more. A three course meal costs about £20.

Excellent service and a really interesting and varied menu. Can be quiet in the evenings as it is in the City but very modern (Ikea-like) decor. A little bit quirky (e.g. they play Linguaphone 'Teach you Swedish' tapes in the toilets). Approx. £20 - £30 per head including wine.

Indian Cuisine    Organic Food
Dr Mark Davies (Warfield) wrote on 25 May 2000:
Not strictly vegetarian, but an impressive and extensive range of vegetarian dishes, partly because the owner manager and his wife are vegetarian. The food is very good, and if you do not see your favourite dish on the menu, they will gladly make it up for you. Owner is called Karim. He and his staff are extremely friendly and nothing is too much for them. When we lived in the area this was our favourite restaurant. They will also welcome even the smallest children. I recommend it highly. Karim will talk to you for hours about his sporting passions: Blackburn Rovers F.C., and cricket. A wonderful place. The atmosphere is quiet and unobtrusive, the staff corteous and respectful. Rough price guide, for two including starters, main, sundries and several beers, around £30-35.

Blah Blah Blah is a no frills restaurant in Shephards Bush, West London. It has a laid back atmospher, excellent veggie food, well priced and down stairs is good for bigger parties although the resuruant to quite small. Oh... it's BYO too..... no credit cards either. Well worth a try, it's been one of my favourites and I go when ever I'm home in London.

Scott Lamshed (Acton) wrote on 15 March 2000:
I Love it ... from the crayons you can use to draw on the table cloths to the simple decor and especially to the food, Blah Blah Blah is fantastic. Bring your own wine to have with dinner and then nip over to the Bushranger Pub opposite for after dinner drinks in their late license upstairs bar.... you will be hard pressed to find a better meal in West London - make sure you book for dinner & if they are full The Gate is our other fave in this part of town.

Reuben (London) wrote on 22 October 1999:
My favourite restaurant in London. Blah Blah Blah has atmosphere, laid-back attitude and a brilliant menu. Gourmet international vegetarian food for about £8 a dish. It's BYO too so you don't pay a premium on wine.

I have only tried the takeaway. It is brilliant, as I work just round the corner and they have vegan options every day, even puddings. Their fruit crumbles are a real treat. A choice of 4 fresh salads, a savoury (with rice usually) a bake and a hotpot every day. Theme days. A cooked meal and salad or pudding for a fiver. Brilliant!! Only problem is, long queues at peak times.

A full veggie or vegan breakfast (the no rubbish special) is served on a Sat. morning for about £4 depending on what's asked for. Cold foods are served from the cold counter, and sandwiches can be made to order. A three course meal on a Friday night (the only evening when open) costs around £12 per head. Japanese Cuisine
Emily Leonard (London) wrote on 1 May 1998:
Wagamama is one of the only "fast food" restaurants I have been to where you actually come out feeling like you have eaten incredibly healthy food, which is also always totally fresh and delicious. Specialities are ramen (soup based dishes with tofu or seafood/chicken etc for the non vegetarian friend) or noodles. The Yasai Yaki Soba - a vegetarian pan fried noodle dish involving fresh ginger and garlic is a particular favourite of mine - great accompanied with freshly squeezed juice. The minimalist modern canteen style restaurant is surprising as you sit on benches between rafts of other people, but it is still easy to have a private conversation. Waiters are young friendly and fast, your order is taken on a keypad and is then sent directly to the kitchen (open and right behind you!) A main course and drink, which is more than enough to fill you up will only set you back significantly less than £10. The food is so good that you will come back usually to find there is a queue of people waiting to get in before you.

Mantanah Thai is not a vegetarian restaurant, but they have won awards for their vegetarian cuisine which is second to none even among the best Thai restaurants. Food is, of course, exotic, but always carefully prepared, imaginative, and presented with a finesse that would put your average sushi chef to shame.
